Security Unlimited

Despite the poor showing of Games Gamblers Play, Security Unlimited (Michael Hui, 1981) was a modest success at the Japanese box office, placing 14th on the list of highest-grossing foreign films of 1982. Notably, The Cannonball Run (Hal Needham, 1981) and Shaolin Temple (Chang Hsin Yen, 1982) were numbers 2 and 4, respectively, on the list, cumulatively grossing three times as much as Enter the Dragon had in 1974. The Cannonball Run, produced by Hong Kong studio Golden Harvest and marketed (extensively) in Japan as a Jackie Chan vehicle, definitively put Jackie Chan on the Japanese moviegoing map as a mainstream star, rather than genre actor, paving the way for his female fandom in Japan.
